Republican group amasses $25 million for 2012 election

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A major Republican-linked fundraising group has amassed $25 million this year to finance attacks on President Barack Obama and other Democrats in the 2012 elections. American Crossroads, conceived by Republican guru Karl Rove, is a new breed of political committee that can raise unlimited cash, thanks in part to recent court decisions loosening federal campaign finance laws.

Arizona opts not to bring primary forward to January 31

PHOENIX, Sept 2 (Reuters ) - Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Friday opted not to move up the state's Republican presidential primary to January 31, in what could have been a controversial move that would have shaken up the party's electoral calendar. Brewer, a Republican, had until this Saturday to move the primary forward to the end of January, leapfrogging over other states including Iowa and New Hampshire that traditionally hold early nominating contests.
