Tucson Pops Orchestra MUSIC UNDER THE STARS

2012 Fall Season Features Three Concerts

Sep 6, 2012, 3:22 p.m.

The Tucson Pops Orchestra will present three concerts for the 2012 fall season of “Music Under the Stars.” Under the direction of Laszlo Veres, the Tucson Pops is now in its 57th year of performing free concerts in the park. The organization has had to reduce its schedule from the usual 4 fall concerts due to sponsor funding cuts, and a sluggish economy. Concerts will take place at the DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center in Reid Park, on Sunday evenings, September 9, 16 and 23, beginning at 7:00 pm.

September 9 – highlighting the many talents and versatility of the Tucson Pops Orchestra, a variety of favorites and classics including two Slavonic Dances by Dvořák, Oklahoma Selections, Hollywood Blockbusters, and a tribute to the late Marvin Hamlisch.

September 16 – featuring the Brubaker brothers, David and Steven, performing the Double Concerto for Violin and Cello by Brahms. Steven has been a long-time cellist with the Pops, and David is a violinist in the Minneapolis Orchestra. Tucson has enjoyed the talents of this remarkable family for many years. The boys’ parents, Carol and Dale, were long-time musicians with the Tucson Pops and their two siblings are also professional musicians, performing with the Chicago and Houston Symphony Orchestras

September 23 – featuring Star Trek Through the Years, My Fair Lady selections, Beethoven’s Allegretto from Symphony No. 7, and ending the season with Rossini’s William Tell Overture.

The fall 2012 concert series is sponsored by Long Realty Companies, Friends of the Pops, Tucson Parks and Recreation Department, Rosemont Copper, Tucson Pima Arts Council, and the Arizona Commission on the Arts. The DeMeester Outdoor Performance Center is located off Country Club just north of 22nd Street. Parking is also available at the Randolph Park Golf Course parking lot, Alvernon Way just north of 22nd Street with shuttle service to the band shell beginning at 5:30pm.
