This innovative new approach to Assisted Living provides up to directed care services in a cheerful home setting. Developed by Dr. William Thomas, a leading authority on gerontology and rooted in the Eden Alternatives principles, The Green Houses embrace a distinctive, Elder-center approach to care giving.
Each Green House is a little over 7,000 square feet with a private room and bathroom. Bedrooms open onto a spacious hearth area welcoming the Elders, family members and caregivers to gather. The delicious aroma of favorite recipes stimulates the appetite, inviting Elders and caregivers to enjoy mealtimes around the large family-style dining table. The Green Houses are designed to encourage participation in the activities of life such as menu planning, folding laundry, setting the table and socialization - all of the Elder's choosing. This special environment virtually eliminates the three most prevalent plagues of old age - loneliness, helplessness and boredom.
The job of the specially-trained caregivers, called "Shahbaz" is to bring forth life from the Elders by nurturing, sustaining and protecting those entrusted to them. They function as a self-managed work team and each Shahbaz receives over 250 hours of training, including certified caregiver training, CPR, first aid, Green House philosophy and coordination, culinary training and home safety measures.
